Vets Match - RCC vs CTCC

RCC won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a brisk start (almost as brisk as the wind in Fish Hoek) and were at one stage 94 for 2 after 11 overs. Cape Town managed to stem the run- flow in the latter part of the innings and RCC ended up with a very respectable 168/5 after their 20 overs thanks to great batting performances from Paul Da Costa (51 off 32), Dave Bakker (30 off 24) and Ryan Maron (31 off 23). Pick of the CTCC bowlers was Wayne Mealing with a return of 2 for 24 off 3 overs.

CTCC started their innings with a measured chase, but soon got the measure of the RCC bowlers, with Darren Nash playing a masterful innings of 53 and together with fellow opener MC Laubser (34) laid a very solid foundation. This was followed by another excellent 50 by Shane Martin and CTCC were very much in the game. Aided by some horrendous fielding by the home side, CTCC managed to whittle down the target and eventually required 8 off the last over with Damien Thornton only needing two balls to get over the line. A great game and even greater camaraderie after the game. A special mention of Dave Loebenstein who was the pick of the RCC attack. Fielding practice for RCC will be obligatory next week (6 catches and two run- outs squandered). It was great to see Les Ryan back on the cricket field and to see Ryan Maron "chuck" his first delivery. Thanks to Dave and the CTCC lads for an excellent afternoon and evening.
